5 Drool-worthy DIY Dog Toys

1 Feb

Can't you see I'm busy?

Does your pooch seem bored of all his existing toys? Then, it’s time to treat him to some new ones. Take a look at some of these fun DIY toys that you can make for your dog at home.

1. Sock with a Ball

ball

It’s time to put those old socks of yours to some good use. How about making a toy for your dog? Just place a tennis ball inside the sock and seal it inside by tying a knot over it. The ‘Sock with a Ball’ toy is one of the simplest toys that you can make at home!

2. Braided Tug Toy

tug toy

Got some old clothes, towels or napkins? You can make a cool tug toy for your pup with these. Take three old towels (or some other pieces of cloth) of different (preferably bright) colors. Cut three 2-3 inches wide and 11-15 inches long strips from each of these. Bunch the three strips together by tying a knot at one end, and then braid them as tightly as possible. Secure the other end of the strips with a knot, after braiding.

3. Stuffed Squeaky Toys

knitbone1

You can easily make stuffed toys for your dog at home. Cut a pattern of bone shape, star shape or any other shape that you like, out of paper. The pattern will be of the size of the toy that you want to make. Place the pattern on a double layer of an old sweater or any other thick fabric. Cut the fabric around the pattern, leaving some extra space for the seams. Now, sew the cut fabric pieces together, leaving a small opening to allow for stuffing scraps of fabric or squeakers inside.  Once you have stuffed the fabric, sew its open end; and voila, you have a cute new plush toy for your four-legged kid!

4. Big Box of Treats

Though not a toy, a big box sealed with treats can turn out to be an exciting game for your dog. Take an empty cardboard box and fill it with crumpled newspaper bits and some dog treats. Seal the box with masking tapes and place it in front of your dog. Your pooch will have a great time ripping it apart and hunting down the treats. It would be fun to watch your pet do this, but do get ready to clean up the mess, once the hunting game is over 😉

5. Jar of Goodies

If you feel that the ‘Big Box of Treats’ game is a bit too messy, then opt for the ‘Jar of Goodies’ game. All you have to do is put some dog treats inside a plastic jar. Take the lid off and place the jar on the floor. Your dog will roll the jar on the floor, punch it with his paws, and do all sorts of things to take the treats out.

Let’s have a Pawesome time together

25 Jan

woman-and-dog-2

As dog-owners, one of our resolutions this year should be to spend some quality time with our pets. Whether indoors or outdoors, there are countless activities that we can do to bond with our dogs! Take a look at some of the things that you can do to spend some memorable time with your pooch.

A walk to remember

Walking is a simple yet delightful activity that you can do with your dog. A peaceful stroll down the road or along the beach can be mentally and physically invigorating for you and your dog. Walking is free and one such activity that we can effortlessly squeeze into our busy schedules!

Dine with your Dog

Dining with your dog is no longer a distant dream. There are several pet-friendly restaurants in Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi and other cities across the country. Do a quick search online to locate a dog-friendly restaurant in your city, and plan for a nice dinner with your four-legged buddy.

Here are few dogs friendly restaurants that you can consider visiting:

Under the Mango Tree (Bangalore)

Huckleberry (Bangalore)

Gostana (Mumbai)

New Delhi Cafe (Delhi)

Crimson Chakra ( Chennai)

Fun time in the park

For having a nice time outdoor, take your dog to to the neighborhood dog park. You can play fetch, teach your dog some new tricks, and let him have a rollicking time socializing with the other dogs in the park.

Go pet- shopping

We love shopping and our pets love them too!  Go on a shopping spree to a luxury pet store in your city. Don’t have a pet store nearby? You can get your doggie new apparels, accessories and toys from Woofilicious.com 🙂

A long ride in the car

Going on a long drive can be an enjoyable experience for your dog, provided you take good safety measures during the travel. Most of the dogs love to ride in the car, but there are chances that  your dog might experience car-sickness or anxiety. So, it’s better to start off with short trips initially and familiarize your pooch with the riding experience.

Groom your dog

You might prefer taking your pooch to a pet salon or spa where he can be groomed by a professional groomer, but bathing and brushing your dog at home is not such a bad idea. If done in a right manner, grooming can be a great experience and a good way to bond with your dog!

A vacation with your pooch

Your dog does not deserve to be left behind in a kennel every time you go out on a holiday. It’s time to take your pooch along on a vacation, and let him have a nice time exploring new places. Just make sure you check into a dog-friendly resort or hotel. For ideas on planning a holiday with your pooch, and to locate pet-friendly hotels and resorts, you can check out Petvacations.in.

So, what’s your idea of spending a pawesome time with your pooch? Do share your thoughts in the comments  🙂

My Dog’s Name

29 Feb

Update: Thank you all for sharing the beautiful stories behind your dog’s name! “Jhappi” you get to take away a special gift!!

My dog’s name is Monk. Pretty unusual people say and they ask…..is it like the Buddhist Monks? is it because he is very docile by nature? some have even asked (pretty sure jokingly!) if it’s because he’s taken a vow of celibacy. I just laugh off and say….nope nothing deep like that!

So here’s people to tell you, why Monk is called Monk!

He’s named after “Adrian Monk”…..yup the famous detective who I absolutely adore for his highly obsessive compulsive ways!

Those who know Mr. Monk know what I am talking about and for others….well its a detective show (you may catch its re-runs on Star World) where the star of the show Mr. Adrian Monk is an exceptionally gifted detective with a quirk….he suffers from OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). I was such an ardent follower of the show (and to confess a bit obsessive compulsive myself) and loved the character of Adrian Monk so much that when the show ended….I decided well if I ever get a dog he’s going to be named MONK!

SO yes, years before this cute little love entered our lives….his name was decided. He was Monk from day one!….and it just suits him perfectly! I cannot imagine him having any other name….Milo, Fido, Jimmy, Jackie…..nope he’s a Monk alright.

Yes, a little unusual and unique, but so is he 🙂

What did you name your dog?  Share your dog’s name and the story behind it below (as comments). One of the stories will be selected to be featured on our blog and will also get a special gift from Woofilicious!

I love you my dear dog, but let’s make this clear….

Funny Pet Rules!!

  • The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate of food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.
  • The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn’t help because I fall faster than you can run.
  • I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort. Dogs can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.
  • For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years –canine attendance is not mandatory.
  • The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog’s butt. I cannot stress this enough!
